Nestled in Ireland’s sunniest corner, Wexford is a county steeped in history, beauty, and charm. From golden beaches to ancient ruins, and from thriving festivals to quiet countryside escapes, Wexford has something to offer every traveler — whether you're after a cultural journey or a peaceful weekend retreat. A Brief History Wexford’s story goes back thousands of years. Once a Viking stronghold, the town of Wexford was originally named Veisafjǫrðr by Norse settlers. Its strategic coastal position made it a hub of activity through the Norman invasion, the Irish Rebellion of 1798, and beyond. Today, the town still reflects its layered past, with medieval lanes, old churches, and heritage sites scattered across the county.
